Summer Garden Tour Series Begins with Presentation on Mulching

On June 17th, 2012 at 2:00pm we will kick off our 2012 Summer Garden Tour Series with a tour of the gardens at the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace that will focus on properly mulching your garden. Sam Arborgast will be our featured presenter and will show attendees the techniques he uses to mulch his garden, ensuring proper nutrients and adequate weed cover are established.

This “hands on” tour individuals will demonstrate proper mulching techniques and ways to incorporate these ideas into their home gardens. In conjunction with our discussion on mulching we will also have individuals on hand to discuss marketing opportunities at local farmers markets and the farmer’s market system. It is the first in a series of tours will be conducted by garden professionals discussing specific topics as they relate to our gardens and Pearl S. Buck. There is no charge for the tours and refreshments will be served.

Started in 2010 the Pearl S. Buck Good Earth Gardens Project was designed as a way to utilize more of the property at the Museum and incorporate the farmstead as part of our historical interpretation. Over the past few years this project has increased in size and interest, becoming an integral part of the mission of the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace Museum.
