Players on the court at last year's tournament

Nobody quite knew what to expect from the first Pearl S. Duck Croquet Tournament last year, but it turned out to be a big success. So much so that the fundraiser will not only be repeated this year on Sunday June 24th, but will be bigger and better. Organizers have announced that a layer of team competition has been added, allowing individual players to also register as part of 4 person teams. The way matches are played won't change, but we will award a prize for the team with the best combined individual scores. Teams can represent any group--businesses, nonprofits, local government, family, church, school, club, etc.--so just come on out and represent!

We provide instruction and equipment, so the tournament is open to all levels. Last year, many people dressed up or wore white, but that is not required! Lunch will be available, as well as tours of the museum at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

Though this year's tournament will be bigger, the size of the lawn will accommodate only eight courts, so we will be limited to 48 players. Advance registration by email and phone has started, and we have just posted an online form for registration, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The fee is $20 and can be paid in advance (come by the Birthplace or mail in a check, use a credit card via PayPal on our website, or contact us for an invoice) or on the day of the tournament.

Registration is limited to 48 participants, based on when you reserve your slot not when you pay. If all slots fill up, we will create a waiting list.

If you have any questions, you can reach me at or at the Birthplace, 304-653-4430.

Register early! All who register before June 15 will receive a free t-shirt featuring our lovely, elegant tournament spokesperson, Pearl S. Duck!
